Approach

The first session is an intake with the parents that will help us define the child’s needs. Offering my support  does not require a lengthy process; on average 4 to 6 sessions will be sufficient to help your child.

Together we will search for the root cause of the issues your child is dealing with.

With young children this can be done in a very playful manner.

Once we have determined the issue and the reasons behind it, we will set an achievable and valuable goal. Reaching this goal allows your child to benefit from the solution in similar situations, as well as new ones.

The guidance I offer is goal- and future-oriented. The key to my approach is to aid your child in finding a solution to the problem himself/herself. Only then will the solution be sustainable in the long term.

My coaching is based on the three therapeutic approaches detailed below.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an approach that helps to recognise negative or unhelpful thoughts and behavioural patterns. CBT aims to help your child identify and explore ways in which emotions and thoughts can affect actions. Once your child is aware and notices these patterns, he or she can begin to learn how to challenge negative or unhelpful behaviour to develop and apply new helpful coping strategies. CBT empowers us to obtain real change by replacing unhealthy thinking patterns with more productive and positive ones. It is proven to be very successful for children as they have a general curiosity to learn and are therefor naturally open to acquiring new skills.

Psychodynamic

Therapy

The world of a child is constantly changing and evolving. From a psychodynamic point of view, the problems a child deals with  are the result of an inner world that is unbalanced or overstimulated. All experiences that a child acquires through his or her development leads to beliefs and opinions about himself/herself and others. These beliefs are in turn dynamically active: they influence how the child interacts with oneself and others. They can thus offer the key to set goals for positive changes.

Systemic

Coaching

Systemic therapy seeks to identify deep-rooted patterns within an individual’s relationships and family members. This helps to uncover how families communicate and behave within a system, based on beliefs about their respective roles. When your child develops a psychological difficulty, from a systemic point of view, his or her problem is always connected to family and other people who are involved in your child’s life. I will guide your child to discover his or her role within the family, at school and with friends. Awareness thereby forms the start to our path towards a solution. This approach may appear intense or complex, but it can be applied in a playful an collaborative manner.
